Repair Tips

Make Your Car Last 10 Years and Beyond

A well-maintained vehicle can easily run well past a decade — and compared to a new-car payment, that's real money in your pocket. At Lake Elmo Repair, our goal is simple: keep your car dependable so you get the most value and the most miles out of it.

Regular maintenance costs a little now and saves a lot later. It heads off surprise breakdowns, keeps your major systems healthy, and — if you ever sell — earns you a better price than a neglected vehicle. Here are the basics worth staying on top of.

Change Your Oil on Schedule

Clean oil keeps engine parts lubricated and protects your fuel economy. Skip it and old oil turns abrasive, costing you money and mileage.

Change Your Brake Fluid

Brake fluid does the work every time you hit the pedal. It can lose effectiveness or develop leaks over time — if braking feels off, get it checked.

Check Your Coolant

Coolant keeps your engine from overheating or freezing. Watch the level for leaks, and never ignore a temperature warning light.

Replace Brakes Before They're Gone

Pads and rotors wear with every stop — more if you drive stop-and-go. Replace pads at 1/4" or less.

Mind Your Battery

Most batteries last 2–6 years. Keep the terminals clean and don't let the car sit unused for long stretches.

Not sure where your vehicle stands? Bring it in — we'll take a look and tell you straight.
